Gargantuan Paddling Lake Wanapum -- Paddle Heaven

Gargantuan Paddling Lake Wanapum

Gargantuan Paddling Lake Wanapum on the Columbia River north of Vantage via the Sunland Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife public water access at Sunland Estates in Grant County just south of the Gorge Amphitheater.

You might have been to a concert on the bluff above this paddling spot. Up in there in the music you pay to listen to from artists around the world. Down below in the quiet of the river during off season, there is another concert, a free take on the melody of nature. Coyotes can hollow and Canada Geese and many other birds will all echo off the walls that line this gargantuan grandiose setting of basalt cliffs and wide expanses of water.

Once beyond the Sunland community the river is free of houses and other human intervention unless there are campers or boaters during the summer until you reach the next community at Crescent Bar. The west side is nature areas managed by the WDFW.

If you like sunshine, critters, quiet, natural settings, this might be the place midweek or off season.
