Put-in

Samish park features fairly easy access to the water from the parking area.

There several put-in locations in the swimming area. There are either stairs or a nice ramp that winds its way to the water from the disabled parking area.

Launching and take out is free here.

Descriptions

Location
Samish Park is on Lake Samish just south of Bellingham Washington.

The lake is made up of two main sections. The east side is the larger and noisier of the two with Interstate 5 on the eastern edge.

The smaller and quieter western section of the lake starts where the bridge divides the lake.

The park is on the northwest end of the bridge. There are no signs I could see marking the entraince to the park.

Check out the park page.

When
This is at least a three season paddling location. For the prepared paddle winter could offer opportunities as well.

Warnings
Wind and underwater hazards might be the big things to watch out for here in the west section of the lake. Noise from the highway and power boats plus wind abound in the larger section of Lake Samish.

Paddle route
The western portion of Lake Samish is about 1.75 miles around the shoreline.

Nature
There is a variety of fish in the lake. King fishers and other fowl could be heard and seen.

The park features hiking trails and a decent swimming and great picnic spots along the shoreline and in the woods.

Provisions

There isn't any food here or close by this park and put-in. It's necessary to bring what you need to eat and drink.

During the off season of October of 2012 about the only water available was in the one bathroom that was open. People bicycling in the area retrieved water here.
